Judging Criteria
Reviewers will be assessing the quality of abstracts based on the following criteria:
- Significance: How significant and novel the abstract data are for obesity research and treatment. Is the purpose/hypothesis clearly described and appropriate? Is there an important contribution to practice, research, theory, or knowledge?
- Methodology: This includes study design, experimental methods, and analytical methods. Are the statistical methods appropriate?
- Results: For abstracts other than descriptions of study design, programs, or case reports: Are results adequately described with appropriate values regardless of whether statistical significance is claimed?
- Conclusions: Do the results support conclusions? Is it clearly stated whether the hypothesis or purpose of the study was validated/accepted? Is there evidence of commercial bias?
NEW FOR 2025: Corporate Sub-track on Abstract Submission Form
Anyone who is presenting on behalf of a corporation must choose this sub-track on the call for abstracts submission form. Orals within this sub-track are funneled to non-CME oral sessions to comply with ACCME rules and posters (all of which are non-CME) will be identified with this sub-track. This applies to all abstracts presented by or on behalf of corporations (aka ACCME-defined ineligible companies). Any full or part-time employee of an ineligible company should submit to the corporate sub-track, as should anyone who is working with a communication company hired by a medical/pharmaceutical corporation. This does not apply to PIs at universities that received grants for their research. PI grant relationships must be disclosed, but do not preclude being accepted into a standard CME orals session. Only corporate employees (and non-corporate employees whose presentation content was crafted or influenced by an ACCME-defined ineligible company or their agent, such as a marketing/communications firm), must use the corporate sub-track. Submitting to the corporate sub-track does not change your odds of being selected for oral presentation.
