The Obesity Society’s Embargo Policy
Purpose of the Embargo Policy
ObesityWeek® serves as a premier forum for the presentation of new scientific discoveries and advances in obesity research, prevention, and treatment. To ensure equitable access to scientific information and maintain the integrity of the scientific process, all abstracts accepted for presentation at ObesityWeek® 2026 are expected to reflect original research and/or new information. The work is subject to the conference embargo policy.
Originality and Prior Presentation
Abstracts submitted to ObesityWeek® 2026 must report original research, novel analyses, or significant new findings that have not been previously presented at a national or international scientific meeting before the date of presentation at ObesityWeek®.
Data included in submitted abstracts may not have been publicly disclosed in a manner that substantially reveals study results prior to abstract presentation at ObesityWeek. Limited disclosures required by law, regulation, clinical trial registration requirements, or financial reporting obligations may be permitted but should not compromise the scientific novelty of the presentation.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all co-authors, sponsors, institutions, and communications representatives comply with this policy.
Public Disclosure and Media Communications
Information contained in accepted abstracts is considered embargoed until the official embargo lift date and time established by ObesityWeek®.
Prior to the embargo lift, authors, institutions, sponsors, exhibitors, and third parties may not:
- Issue press releases containing embargoed findings.
- Conduct media briefings or public presentations of embargoed results.
- Share detailed study outcomes through websites, blogs, podcasts, webinars, social media platforms, or other public communication channels.
- Present embargoed findings at satellite symposia, promotional programs, or affiliated events occurring before the scheduled ObesityWeek® presentation.
General statements announcing that research has been accepted for presentation at ObesityWeek® are permitted provided they do not disclose study results or conclusions.
Journal Publication
Submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals before presentation at ObesityWeek® is permitted.
Publication of a manuscript before the scheduled ObesityWeek® presentation is allowed only if the journal publication is coordinated under an embargo that is consistent with or later than the ObesityWeek® embargo date and has been approved by conference leadership.
Authors should notify ObesityWeek® staff if a journal publication is anticipated before the conference presentation.
Conference Materials and Abstract Release
Accepted abstracts may be made available to registered attendees through conference materials, mobile applications, meeting platforms, and the ObesityWeek® website prior to the start of the conference. Such availability does not constitute release from embargo.
All individuals with access to embargoed materials are expected to maintain confidentiality until the embargo is lifted.
Embargo Lift
Unless otherwise specified, the embargo on accepted ObesityWeek® 2026 abstracts will lift at:
12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (U.S.) on Saturday, November 14, 2026
At that time, abstract content may be publicly reported, discussed, distributed, and shared through media outlets, institutional communications, and social media channels.
Violations
Violation of the ObesityWeek® embargo policy may result in one or more of the following actions:
- Withdrawal of the abstract from presentation and publication.
- Removal of the abstract from conference materials and archives.
- Notification of the corresponding author’s institution, employer, sponsor, or funding organization.
- Restriction of future abstract submissions by the authors.
- Other actions deemed appropriate by The Obesity Society and ObesityWeek® leadership.
The Obesity Society reserves the right to investigate alleged violations and make final determinations regarding compliance with the embargo policy.
